Why You Should Choose Brunswick Islands for Your Engagement Photoshoot 

There is nothing like a coastal shore to usher in the ability to slow down and live in the moment.  It might be the cool, fresh breeze ruffling your hair. Or perhaps it is the sound of waves as they roll and tumble against the shore.  Maybe it’s the feeling of the warm sun resting sleepily on your skin that keeps you grounded in the moment.  You might realize, standing there against the ocean shore, that there is no better time or place to rest your toes in the sand than right now. 

Coastal photographic portraits are one of my favorite ways to capture the first moments toward wedded bliss!   There is something so timeless and enchantingly romantic about photos silhouetted against a watery backdrop.  Where the earth and the sea kiss to meet, just like the union of two newly engaged souls in love. 

As a North Carolina native raised right here along these beautiful, boat-lined shores, I naturally have some favorite coastal locations for photo sessions. However, one of my favorite classic locations, The Brunswick Islands, are iconic in their reputation for tranquility and unmatched beauty. From their soft pastel tones to their white sandy beaches, you can’t go wrong with choosing Brunswick Islands for your engagement photoshoot.

Southport 

If you are looking for the Hollywood of the eastern seaboard, then Southport is it!  Southport is known for providing a picturesque, charming backdrop for both television and the big screen.  With its small coastal town feel, Southport feels both classic and sophisticated. And maybe it’s the colorful seaside buildings, the watercolor-like sunset, the towering lighthouse, or the wooden fishing boats docked along a planked deck. Overflowing with charm, Southport offers a joyous and cheerful feel perfect for nautical portrait dreams.

Fort Fisher 

Fort Fisher is just the location if you want a classic, historical feel to your engagement photos! Stroll along the shores of Kure Beach for a vintage, sandy feel to your coastal portraiture. Or meander through a marsh to find Fort Fisher, a WWII bunker.  Fort Fisher offers an array of dreamy and intimate spots from rocky textured seashores to greenery draped trails, perfect for any couple to capture their love story.  With lots of green shore grasses in the wide-open, rolling sandy dunes and trees that stretch to the sky, your engagement photos will not disappoint here!

Carolina Beach State Park 

Historical and ecological diversity is the name of the game at Carolina Beach State Park.   If you’ve dreamed of a nautical photo shoot filled with yachts and seaworthy sailing boats, then this State Park is a perfect choice for you.  There’s little better to this hopeless romantic than a seaside photoshoot enhanced by the faded blue painted sky, natural rawness of driftwood in the background, and a sunlit, glistening sea.  Carolina Beach State Park is the perfect location for nature or nautical lovers alike!

Wilmington 

If you can envision giant trees draped in green foliage, coastal gardens, and beachy vibes, then Wilmington might be the place for your engagement session.  For all you movie buffs, the Brunswick Islands has long been a favorite destination for filmmakers. In fact, Wilmington’s picturesque backdrop for many famous films has the locals calling it Wilmywood.  This quaint, small-town feel exudes southern city charm.  With so many beautiful viewpoints, such as Cape Fear River, Wilmington Country Club, Airlie Gardens, and the Riverwalk, you are bound to fall in love with the town just as quickly as you fell in love with one another!  While Wilmington is not technically part of the Brunswick Islands, it is associated with BI because of its proximity and access to the water.
